Are you compassionate and caring, desiring to play a supportive, client-driven role in rehabilitation centres, long term care facilities or in providing basic supports for individuals facing challenges who desire to remain in their own homes?

If so, Cornerstone might be the program for you!

This program is designed to provide relevant certification and training for entry-level work in health care and disability support.  This program requires a 12-week commitment. Upon completion, participants will leave with the 7 core competencies required by many care institutions.

The core competencies are:

  • Conflict Resolution (MANDT) – learning to deal with conflict in a positive and constructive way
  • Medication Awareness – providing training in the different forms of drugs and medications, ways to administer them and when, safe disposal and proper storage of medications
  • Person Centered Plans – training in identifying client needs, creating a plan to meet these individual needs and monitoring the outcomes of the program plan
  • Positive Behaviour Support – a course teaching how to defuse stressful, hostile or violent behavior at an early stage
  • Standard First Aid/CPR Level C – a course offering first aid and CPR skills based on the latest regulations; including injury prevention and AED
  • Health and Personal Care – a course that provides introductory knowledge into providing personal health, care and support to others
  • Fire and Life Safety – a course teaching how to properly use a fire extinguisher and maintain it, types of fire and general fire safety
  • Other Courses: Dementia Care, Palliative Care, Caregiver Stress Management, Food Handlers, Mental Health First Aid, Compassion Fatigue, etc.

Pre-requisites to Training:

To participate in this training program, students must secure a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check. PLEASE NOTE: Grade 12 or GED is not a pre-requisite for this training program; however, it may be for some workplaces. Cornerstone training provides all this as well as workshops to help you learn more about yourself as a future employee in this field.
