Youthworks is an employability project working with 8 youth who face barriers to employment. The focus of the project is on upgrading essential skills with a particular focus on digital skills and gaining knowledge about the green economy. The hope is that by the project's conclusion, participants will either have found meaningful work or returned to school with a view to completing their education.
The project duration is 30 weeks. 15 weeks are spent ‘in-house' upgrading skills, followed by 15 weeks on work placement. Participants receive an allowance of $10.30/hr. (30 hours/wk) based upon the provincial minimum wage rate in NS, and are also eligible for a $250 completion bonus.The current project began October 7, 2013.
