Creative Writing Workshops at Open Arms
The Creative Writing program is a series of creative writing workshops offered for participants of the Open Arms Drop-in Centre in downtown Kentville at 32 Cornwallis Street.
Open Arms is a Christian Ministry which operates a drop-in centre and a winter shelter in Kentville and Berwick. The workshops are facilitated by Sophie Bérubé and Marie White and take place each Tuesday morning during the school year from 9 to 11am. The workshops are open both to those who come with creative ideas they would like to get into print, as well as those who do not yet know what they want to write.
Because some participants experience difficulty expressing themselves through writing, the program also offers people the opportunity to use drawing and painting as a means of expression. Many of the individual books written in the program contain many drawings and paintings in addition to text.
At least once a year, there is a coffee house where participants can read from their work. Below is a picture of Reg Outhouse reading at a coffee house in March of 2014.
