The Literacy Mile is an opportunity to raise awareness of and support for the literacy needs of Annapolis Valley residents. Typically held the first Saturday in May, there are hot dogs and refreshments for sale, live music, a silent auction, and activities for the whole family. All proceeds raised go toward supporting local literacy and English as an additional language programming.
The 14th annual Literacy Mile promotional and fundraising event was held Saturday, May 5, 2018, from 1-3pm, outside our Kentville offices at 49 Cornwallis Street in Kentville.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to make this a very successful day!
The Literacy Mile is also a time when we honour the achievements of our learners. Each year we present the William and Lucille Owen Award to two learners for outstanding achievement. In the photo below, Paul O'Brien says a few words after receiving the award in 2012.
The Owen Award winners for 2018 were Tanya Bosworth-Bouder, Anthony Whiston and Tim Wile. Congratulations to all!
