I think part of the problem here in rural Nova Scotia, though, is not the fact that people are abusing the system, but that there just aren't enough doctors. I don't know why practising medicine in rural areas is not as attractive, but this is a global problem. What rural areas need is more family doctors, yet it looks like many physicians prefer to specialize or work in larger cities. And with fewer and fewer physicians, the workload for those that choose to remain becomes overwhelming. I agree, Atsuko and Wen, health care could definitely be improved. I never need one in Taiwan. We have so many doctors in Taiwan, you can walk in any hospital and wait for 30min~1 hour,then you can see the doctor. My friend had to wait for 4 hours in emergency room in Canada. after long waiting, she still didn't get to see any doctor,so she just went home. I hope this situation can be changed in the future.
